As we hear day after day of incidents tragic mass violence involving firearms, we as Democrats see the need for common sense gun laws that protect not only our freedoms, but also our health and well-being. Moms Demand Action has mobilized mothers across the country to become the largest grassroots movement working to reduce gun violence. We will be hearing from Susan Randolph on the Jefferson City branch of this organization, what they have accomplished, and what's coming up next.
We will also be joined by Ian Mackey, Democratic member of the Missouri House of Representatives, representing the 87th House District. Representative Mackey will be providing an update on the recent special session.
The Missouri Rural Crisis Center (MRCC) is a statewide farm and rural membership organization with a mission is to preserve family farms, promote stewardship of the land and environmental integrity and strive for economic and social justice by building unity and mutual understanding among diverse groups, both rural and urban. Sen. Mike Bernskoetter sponsored SB 391 that, once it was passed, stripped Local Control from rural counties, taking away our right to protect our farms, families, water and air, communities and property rights from the negative impacts of corporate-controlled industrial livestock operations.

Andrew Hutchinson will be joining us this month to give a presentation on the Medicaid Expansion petition initiative, as well as train us on petition circulation. This plans to be an informative and lively event with excellent action items that we can take away from it!

The Democratic National Committee has announced that the first Democratic presidential primary debates will be held on June 26th and 27th. We have organized a watch party so that we can meet, discuss the candidates, and socialize. Join us for this fun and informative event!
